Rodent tunnels provide structural cage enrichment. Vigorous dedusting during the production process ensures that the product is virtually dust free The rodent tunnels are heat resistant and are autoclavable up to 120° C. Allentown's Wi-Com needs only an internal Ethernet or WiFi network. In addition, Wi-Com allows users to select their own animal holding parameters, alarm points, and data acquisition intervals to ensure real-time data capture and management. With specialized Wi-Com software, this information is immediately available to a number of authorized users around the world.

How does Wi-Com work?

Data from the inlet and outlet fans are provided to a central wireless hub located inside or outside the breeding room. The hub transmits data via Ethernet or WiFi (when using a wireless router) to the computer on which the Wi-Com software is installed. Protection of research data in real time Within the user-defined time intervals, the system collects the following data:

temperature, humidity, air exchange, status of filters pressure in the cage, fan status, alarms.

The management computer receives data and displays it in tabular form. Data is automatically logged for future use and can be managed or displayed in graphical and reportable format by several users with access to the computer.

Biowizard BW3

The cabinet separates the operator from the potentially infected samples handled in the working space. Work is performed with mechanically attached gloves. Escape of any airborne particles is prevented by an exhaust system.

Construction
The cabinet is constructed of stainless steel

Window
The front window can be opened for ease of access to the working area when it is safe to do so.

Finishing
All internal surfaces are solvent, disinfectant and abrasion resistant. The base is flat and rigid, preventing any flexing of the surface which might create dangerous conditions inside the cabinet.

Filters
The main filters are leak-tested, high efficiency HEPA-filters which meet the requirements of Federal Standard 209 E. The inlet filter is to the same specification as the exhaust filter. These filters generate the correct airflow, ensuring a minimum working pressure of 200 Pa.

Material pass-through
Materials required for normal work are placed inside the cabinet via a material pass-through made of stainless steel. A sliding tray in the bottom of the pass-through makes this easy.
 
Gloves
The gloves have a beaded cuff conforming to the diameter and shape of the glove ports. They are made of a rubber material so that damage to a glove can be detected easily. Gloves can easily be replaced from outside the cabinet, the old gloves being pushed inside and the new ones fitted while the fan is still running.

Euthanasia system

The system is equipped with a large chamber where home cages with mice, rats, and guinea pigs are placed.  Optionally, the manufacturer performs on request various sizes chambers to euthanize or two-chamber system (pictured). The system is equipped with a control panel and an optional trolley. For procedural reasons gases necessary for the operation of the system, carbogen and carbon dioxide provides the customer on their own.

System description

First, carbogen gas is introduced at the bottom of the cage, by means of a PLC controlled valve. Carbogen is a gas mixture of 95% O2 + 5% CO2 . This causes a high concentration O2 in the cage and in the container, while the 5%-concentration CO2 does not cause any reaction at the CO2 reseptors in the animal lungs. The pO2 level in the blood becomes maximal.

After 1 min. the Carbogen flow is stopped and 100% CO2 is introduced into the cage. In this way the high concentration O2 is slowly replaced by CO2. This relatively slow replacement of O2 by CO2 is responsable for the reduction of stress for the animal.

This method is much better and painless than expose animals directly to 100% CO2. Please see attached publication.
